Erg Ubari, a sea of sand with several small lakes, surrounded by dunes and palm trees.
Wau en Namus, the mosquito crater: approx. 5 km in diameter, with lakes up to 15 meters deep
Myriads of insects feeding on blood have made this biotope uninhabitable.
The red hue in the lake is caused by a special kind of bacteria.
