edy in san carlos de bariloche

Tourist Hotspots

In San Carlos de Bariloche, Villa La Angostura as well as in San Martin de los Andes it is rather unpleasant because of extreme traffic, no free parking spaces and way too many people. Therefore, we stayed only for a short time in each case.

Elephant seal

Elephant seals at Playa la Escondida

Here, elephant seals lie motionless on a sandbank at the beach. We camp next to the dozing colossi, which occasionally roar and throw sand on their bellies. Harems consist of 2 to 130 females and the dominant males mate up with them to 15 times per day.

epecuen

Sunken tourist hotspot Villa Epecuén

On the shores of the salt lake Lago Epecuén, about 600 kilometers southwest of Buenos Aires, a vacation village was built starting in 1920. The therapeutic effects of the highly saline waters caused the village to boom very quickly, reaching its prime in the 1970s with over 1,500 residents. During this time, however, there were years of more rain than before, and Lago Epecuén began to swell. In 1985, a dam broke

Gaucho Festival in Salta

A traditional parade in honor of the gaucho hero Martin Miguel de Güemes. About 7000 mounted gauchos marched from different regions of the area past his monument. Legislators, authorities and the military were also not to be missed. People danced and enjoyed the festivities with bonfires, these began days before. Hundreds of tourists came to Salta to experience this spectacle.

Argentina valle de la luna

Through the land of the Dinosaurs

Argentina, about 450 KM north of Mendoza - The partly bizarre landscape in the north of Argentina has already fascinated the prehistoric giants. Lunar landscapes, gorges, canyons, high deserts and fertile wine valleys are the highlights of this area. A visit to the provincial park Ischigualasto Provincial Park (Valle de la Luna) is an absolute must to see.

Visit friends

Travel friends we met 16 years ago in Bariloche bought a plot of land near San Luis 12 years ago. Both of them built a large, beautiful house on it, mainly on their own. The property is huge by our standards at 27,000 m2.

USA-Argentina: Shipping Motorhome & Buenos Aires

Motorhome Sprinter Scan

Shipping Motorhome from Brunswick, USA to Zarate, Argentina

On March 28, 2022, we brought our Sprinter to the port as requested by the shipping company; 6 business days prior to the ship's departure.
An extremely large number of papers and certifications were required in advance.

Doctor's Office or Mercedes Sprinter Motorhome

Since we have been on the road with the Mercedes Sprinter, we have been asked several times a day about our vehicle, or praised by other motorists with arm out the window and thumbs up. It seems that many Americans pay more attention to our little vehicle than to their many thousands of huge RVs with cars towing.
When we took a short break in a parking lot on the beach, an older person spoke to us and asked, probably because of the Swiss cross, whether this was a mobile Doctor's Office!

USA: exchange, booster vaccine and fossils in the desert

February 2022

exchange office

Money exchange at the flower shop

After our entry from Mexico to the USA we still had Mexican Pesos. We wanted to have these changed in an official exchange office, but this was not possible. We were referred to a Mexican gift store around the corner. In fact, inside this store was a small, segregated money counter.

Metal Sculptures in Borrego Springs

The late Dennis Avery, landowner of the Galleta Meadows Estates in Borrego Springs, had the idea of adding freestanding art to his property with the original steel-welded sculptures created by commissioned artist Ricardo Braceda.
So now magnificent sculptures scattered throughout the desert can be visited for free.
