Argentina: Salta, Tire & Bodegas

Trust is good, control is better

In the Supermarket Libertad in Salta, we selected vegetables and fruits, weighed ourselves, glued the price sticker on the plastic bags and wanted to pay at the cash register at the end of our purchases.

We were very amazed when the cashier got up and took all the bags with fruits and the vegetables and descended on a scale at the cash register again. Apparently, some customers are dizzy when weighing, otherwise this control cannot be explained. Since we didn't add more goods after the label glue, the weighed weights were identical to those on our labels.
You still feel a bit strange about the whole story!

Honest taxi drivers

Over 2 weeks we have been driving a lot with taxis in Salta. The transport offer is huge; most of the vehicles are in bad conditions, the  drivers almost always interested in a conversation.
Switching on the taximeter at the start does not have to be requested as many years ago.
The prices are unbeatable. Basic tax starts at 0.50 Swiss Francs. After a quarter of an hour's city trip, the taximeter then shows the equivalent of 2.50 to 3.0 Swiss Francs.
The drivers do not expect a tip. However, they are more astonished when we round up the price generously. When they count the amount, they want to give us back the change, but then like to keep it as an officially declared tip.

Xamena Salta

Salta, Argentina

The residents of Salta are proud of their city. They also call the city of Salta La Linda - the beautiful.
Around 20 years ago, we were in Salta for the first time. We also like the city and the region, one reason that we have visited this city several times.
The 300 meter long swimming pool Xamena with camping is unique. In summer with the water filled swimming pool, with many day visitors, the place can get a little crowded. Now in winter timer with an empty pool it is very pleasant at the campsite.

The extensive area is guarded by a security service around the clock. Certainly not without any reason. We were warned earlier by no-go zones. During our first visit, a kayak, which was charged on a motorhome, disappeared over the security wall on a nimble look.
This time a similar event happened. A Brazilian tourist, standing in the no-go zone, tinkered with his vehicle. In the morning at eleven o'clock he suddenly saw a moving shade - his angle grinder and the drill got legs. Were thrown over the fence, picked up by an accomplice and they were away.
At least there are no weapons in the game. But it is annoying anyway!

Distance to camper neighbors

Endless space, but another motorhome appears three centimeters next to you. Why?
If the distance to other campers falls below, the cuddly camping is called. What reasons are there to be hired between vehicles. Is it the herd instinct and the mediation of security? Dear camper, let the neighbors and us have a little more privacy!

Gomeria Argentina

Tire pressure loss

So far, we have fundamentally had extreme luck with tire breakdowns on our trip. With the Sprinter we were allowed to cover over 70'000 Kilometer until it caught us for the first time.
A screw got stuck in one of the tires. The pressure loss displayed in the Sprinter dash board was so low that we were able to continue our trip and pumping up the tire with our equipment. Two days later we stopped at a Gomeria, so we didn't have to patch or change the tire ourselves.
True to our Motto: Work is fun! Joking aside!

Las Arcas de Tolombon2

Cafayate and the wineries

Again we visited the wine town of Cafayate with the many wineries. Well -known and new one for us. It is really fun to look at the different styles of the buildings, to enjoy the offer of the restaurants and tast the wines. Of course, there is always a chat with the employees.

Las Arcas de Tolombon1

The Las Arcas de Tolombon winery differs architecturally from what we otherwise saw in the region. The architecture for the imposing building was selected after a presentation of a mosque from Mali. The visit and explanations about the construction of the building were very informative. The tasting of the wines "Siete Vacas" was limited to red wine because white wine was drunk.
I marveled at the mosque in Mali on my first trip to Africa with a land rover 52 years ago.
