Switzerland: Vacation at Home

Vacation in Switzerland and Austria

The flight with Iberia from Montevideo via Madrid to Zurich was punctual and trouble-free. Picking up our rental car from Hertz for our entire stay was as simple as usual. We were very warmly welcomed by

our travel friends in Zurich Höngg and were invited to stay in their well-equipped apartment for the duration of our stay.

Health checks that made sense for our age and sticking to our appointments kept us on our toes. Our teeth also needed to be polished again.

We really enjoyed visiting Brigitte's family in Austria for several days.

The busy traffic, especially in and around Zurich, was not a pleasant surprise. Confusing road signposts without any end, cargo bikes carrying children, dogs or groceries, electric scooters in the middle of very busy streets at intersections and on the sidewalks. Buses and streetcars always have right of way. Some of this would be enough on its own, but all of it together is simply way too much. Daily traffic jams, even on highways. There are more than enough vehicles and people jammed into a limited space.

We enjoy the many get-togethers with old and longstanding friends, but also with travel buddies who, like us, are here on vacation.

Lucerne

As tourists, we visited several Swiss cities. Lucerne, our hometown, is and remains unique for us. Solothurn, with its well-preserved old town and great weather, was also worth a visit.

We think the variety of Swiss cuisine is simply top class. We enjoyed some delicious food in a great atmosphere.

Yes, and the return flight to our vehicle parked in Uruguay is slowly but surely approaching. We are looking forward to our usual life on wheels again.
