Argentina: San Antonio de Areco & long-term parking Uruguay

April 2025

San Antonio de Areco1

San Antonio de Areco, Argentina

This small town with around 25,000 inhabitants impresses with its charm. We really liked the artistically carved front doors with their filigree grilles, as well as the weathered facades with their pastel colors. The well-preserved Baroque church was very impressive.
Many art objects in various small parks inspires visitors. We took away many positive impressions from this visit to the city.

Gas tank filling

Filling a gas tank in Uruguay

We have experience with direct filling from the gas transporter without an adapter, as well as with an adapter that we carry with us.
Now we were traveling in Uruguay again and happened to pass a small gas station in the town of Mercedes. The employee was very helpful and took apart one of the adapters we had with us. This gave him a thread with the right dimensions to fit his gas cylinder hose. In no time at all, our gas tank was full again.
As our full, permanently installed tank normally lasts for three to four months, there is fortunately always a way of filling it if we look around in good time. We rarely must activate the gas heating in South America anyway.

Cafe La Farmacia1

Café La Farmacia in Montevideo, Uruguay

While strolling through the city of Montevideo, we discovered this café, which used to be a pharmacy. Very friendly staff, nicely furnished, and rather rare in Montevideo, very good coffee.
Most of the furniture from the old pharmacy is still there and makes the whole place very cozy.

preparing for vacation

Long-term Parking our Sprinter

In Nueva Helvecia we had a good time with other travelers who also prepared their home vacations.
Rolf, the owner of the Granja Hotel Suizo and the popular parking possibilities, makes us feel that we are in good hands. He knows his way around and has good answers to many questions.
He provided us a sheltered parking space for our vehicle. In addition to our Sprinter, over twenty vehicles are currently waiting for their owners to return.
Rolf took us to the airport in Montevideo and will pick us up upon we return.
