Brazil: Guarapari, Metal Fish, Cacau Show & Caravelas

October 2026

Guarapari1

Guarapari

Here we found a unique place to stay right in the heart of the city. It was quiet at night, with a great view of the beach, the bay, and the houses in the background. In the morning, some motorcyclists parked right next to us to smoke a joint.

 Praia de Setiba3

Praia de Setiba

A quiet spot. We stayed there for several days because there were some interesting restaurants in the area. Some of the women on the beach also provided a bit of visual variety.

Restaurant Nosso Bistro

Nosso Bistro Restaurant – Caicara Cuisine

A pleasant surprise. A small, rustic, yet cozy restaurant. Delicious food and great service! It fully lives up to the reputation of Capixaba moqueca (a traditional Brazilian seafood stew from the state of Espírito Santo).

Metallfisch Praia Formosa

Metal Fish, Praia Formosa

A truly fascinating and unique metal sculpture in the shape of a fish, made from scrap metal. It is located directly in front of the SESC Praia Formosa in Espírito Santo. It’s impressive to see the details and the materials used up close.

Cacau Show3

Cacau Show

Cacau Show is a Brazilian chocolate manufacturer that operates the largest franchise chain in the country. The company was founded in 1988 by Alexandre Tadeu da Costa, who was seventeen at the time. He began by selling chocolate Easter eggs door-to-door.
We couldn’t resist and stopped at a Cacau Show location in Linhares. We found a wide selection of delicious chocolates and pralines - though the prices were quite steep.

House Upside Down

The Upside-Down House, Praia do Brejo Velho

We loved the unspoiled beach, free of large urban buildings and tourist infrastructure. It was perfect for enjoying nature in peace. Nearby, we visited an extraordinary building - the Upside-Down House. Even the dog has to sleep on its back; the beds, shower, and toilet are all suspended from the ceiling.

Caravelas1

Historic Center of Caravelas

It is well worth making a detour to Caravelas to visit its historic center - even if it is a bit off the beaten path. It is a small but noteworthy old town that follows the classic layout of historic centers: a church at the heart, surrounded by old buildings. You will also find a few bars here, where local drunk people can be seen hanging around in the morning. The colorful area along the river is particularly worth seeing, though the heavy patina of age gives some of the buildings a rather morbid appearance.
